How did I discover the stock and option business?

Like most entrepreneurs I always put money a aside for new projects. One day I woke up and realised my money was sitting in a money market earning 4.5% a year. The next year it was earning 5.6%… wow – 5.6% a year. Stupid fool…I thought! And all this because I lacked the skills to think of something better to do with my cash.

I know my money can do far better and be more productive. I started looking around at all kinds of franchise opportunities and other “easy to manage” businesses to invest in. But you know what? They all had the same drawback. Yes, the financial investment was large but that was not the problem. The opportunities were time hungry. All these opportunities demanded time from me I was just not prepared to share and stomach. I was already busy as it was, more work would have been crazy.

So I did what most of us do. I started to invest my money without a system or plan. (And knowledge really!) I did a few years of “hit or miss” trading. I nearly got “killed” one day!
Then I started thinking about trading as a real business. What I mean is buying and selling stocks and options as a “business”. I know how to run a business, being doing it for years; so why not trade stocks AS A BUSINESS?

Back then I didn’t know if this was possible at all. Still, the idea intrigued me. But what I did know for sure was this: I knew somebody, somewhere was making a killing in the markets and it wasn’t me. I was determined to find them, learn everything they know and make a killing of my own.

So, as a good entrepreneur I decided to change my style and attitude and begin to see my stock trading as a business, not as a gamble.

This meant I had to look at opportunities, supply and demand, marketplace dynamics and managing my business based on solid business fundamentals: They are profit, loss, expenses, overheads and return on investment.

Like any other business my only concern was to buy something that I could sell at a profit. And I knew that with enough of a profit margin my expenses (although very small) will be covered and my new business will leave me with a consistent and reliable monthly income.

As the saying goes, the rest is history. Today I am reaping the rewards BIG time!

The business of trading has major advantages over ANY other business I know of.

Once you know and understand the system, this business can be managed in 15 minutes a day.

This is the “perfect” business because you don’t have to spend all your time running it. If you allow me a few seconds I am going to explain why.

As you know, the markets go up one day and down the next! That is just the way it is.

When I started trading I was really confused. Everyday I wondered in which way the markets would turn that day. Up or Down? Since I hated the idea of losing money I tried to “predict” the market’s direction. I did this because that is what I THOUGHT you have to do to make money.

I got really, really good with “technical analysis”. I am a good student and I THOUGHT that this is the key to profits. If only I could tell where the market was headed it would be easy to make money, right? Wrong!
I learned all about waves and candle sticks, MACD, ADX, CCI, Bollinger Bands and Fibonacci and hundreds of chart “patterns” . Wow I thought, NOW I know something about the future of the market! Sorry Wrong Again!

I was devastated for a while then one day I realised; technical indicators are like crutches. They only help to support and validate your trading ideas already formed in your mind.
They do not help you become a better trader nor will they help you see the reality of the market.

Here is my first secret to share with you.

There are only 3 technical indicators you will need when you run your own trading business. They are;

• Support
• Resistance, and
• Trend lines.

That is it. Keep it simple. Simple makes money.

I discovered something else too. During my early days, and I was lucky to discover this so soon, I saw that the TOP 1% of all traders do the EXACT opposite of what I was trying to do back then.

I was trying to predict the market but the fact is this.

TOP traders NEVER try to predict the market. They only manage risk.

Most of the elite traders do not care if the market goes up or down. They make money either way. They use charts sparingly.

These TOP traders are clever people and I noticed that they manage their risk well and take advantage of the only truths of the market. I mean the ONLY absolute truths of the market. They are:

For stocks that ONE Absolute Truth is this:

1) All stocks fluctuate in price.

For options there are two Absolute Truths:

1) All options fluctuate in price and

2) All options expire.

You might think there are other truths but there aren’t…

Everything you hear about the market outside these 2 rules is hearsay, opinion, commentary and even complete fantasy.

You will also learn, just like these TOP traders did, to respect these rules because they are the ONLY truths of the market. There is nothing else!

Why? Well because these rules are so powerful. It help TOP traders cut through the “market noise” and get down to the business of “making money” fast.
